Our Story
The history of the Parnell Knot began in the Wimbledon Stringing Room in 2003.
Sparked by a simple video that quickly gained traction online. In that video, the knot Richard used was described as “The Parnell Knot”—a name that stuck and has since become one of the industry’s standard finishing knots, trusted by professional stringers around the world.
Richard’s passion for stringing began early. He first picked up the craft at just eight years old and successfully strung his first racket on his own at nine. What started as childhood curiosity soon developed into a lifelong career. Over the decades, Richard has worked with virtually every top-level tennis professional, including legends such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg and Venus Williams, among countless others.
Building on decades of experience, Richard founded ParnellKnot – “designed by stringers for stringers” in 2014 with a clear mission: to provide professional tools created specifically for stringers. Frustrated by the lack of high-quality, purpose-built products in the industry, he set out to design solutions that truly met their needs. The first results were the Parnell Pad and Parnell Block—innovations that quickly became trusted essentials in stringing rooms worldwide, from local clubs to the sport’s biggest tournaments.
Leading GRSA
As GRSA President & a GRSA Grand Master stringer, Richard leads the global mission to elevate racket sports through education, certification, and community-building.
Established in early 2022, GRSA International addresses the need for unified, worldwide standards in racket stringing and equipment knowledge.
Under Richard’s leadership, GRSA offers: Structured presential and online courses and certifications, ranging from Beginner through Pro Master Stringer up to Tour Master, all featuring Richard’s expert instruction, a monthly digital magazine, GRSA ATW, along with expansive educational study guides and the A–Z of Stringing.
